AS Roma have officially confirmed the signing of Jamaican winger Leon Bailey from Aston Villa on a deal that includes a €2 million loan fee and a non-mandatory €22 million buy option. The move marks the end of a three-year spell in the Premier League for Bailey, who now seeks to reignite his career in Serie A.

The 27-year-old attacker, who first made his name in Europe with KRC Genk before flourishing at Bayer Leverkusen, has been a dynamic presence on the flanks throughout his career. At Aston Villa, Bailey made 146 appearances across all competitions, contributing 22 goals and numerous assists under Unai Emery. His standout campaign came during the Premier League 2023/24 season, when he scored 10 goals and finished as the club’s second-highest scorer behind Ollie Watkins. He was also part of Villa’s success in lifting the Queensland Championship Cup in 2022.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano tweeted on X, “Official, confirmed. AS Roma sign Leon Bailey from Aston Villa on €2m loan fee plus €22m buy option clause not mandatory.”

Before moving to England, Bailey impressed in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen, scoring 39 goals, while at Genk he netted 16 goals, further underlining his consistency across Europe’s top leagues.

On the international stage, Bailey has earned 39 caps and scored 7 goals for the Jamaica national team, becoming one of the country’s most recognizable talents alongside names such as Michail Antonio and Bobby Decordova-Reid.

Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini will be hoping Bailey can bring added pace, flair, and attacking depth to the side as they aim to challenge both domestically and in European competitions. Bailey will link up with key attacking stars Paulo Dybala, Artem Dovbyk, and Evan Ferguson, forming a dangerous frontline that promises goals and creativity for the Giallorossi faithful.

The move represents a fresh chapter in Bailey’s career, offering him the chance to showcase his talent in Italian football after proving himself in Belgium, Germany, and England. Roma supporters will be eager to see whether the Jamaican winger can adapt quickly to Serie A and deliver the kind of performances that once made him one of Europe’s most exciting prospects.
