British No.1 Emma Raducanu has been eliminated from the Canadian Open 2025 after a straight-sets defeat to Wimbledon runner-up Amanda Anisimova. The American delivered a dominant performance in Toronto, securing a 6-2, 6-1 victory to advance to the Round of 16, where she will face Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina.
Raducanu, who earlier impressed with wins over Romania’s Elena-Gabriela Ruse and American Peyton Stearns, struggled to find rhythm against Anisimova’s aggressive baseline play. According to The Guardian, Anisimova broke Raducanu’s serve early, staging a comeback from 40-15 in the second game to seize momentum and take control of the match.
In the second set, Raducanu managed to win just eight points, narrowly avoiding a dreaded bagel. The 2021 US Open champion appeared visibly frustrated as unforced errors piled up and Anisimova continued to dictate play with her powerful groundstrokes and deep returns.
With this defeat, Raducanu’s run in the WTA 1000 event comes to a premature end. She will now turn her focus to the US Open 2025, which begins on August 19 in New York. The Grand Slam marks a crucial point in her season as she aims to rediscover her best form and climb back up the WTA rankings.
Anisimova, meanwhile, looks in top form and remains a strong contender in the North American hardcourt swing following her Wimbledon final appearance last month.
