Liverpool’s No. 9, Darwin Núñez, has ended his Anfield chapter and is set to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal. The 26-year-old striker moves for €53 million plus add-ons on a three-year contract.
Núñez played his final match for the Reds just two days ago in a pre-season friendly against Athletic Club. His departure marks the end of a rollercoaster three-season spell on Merseyside.
The Uruguayan international began his career with Club Atlético Peñarol before moving to Almería. He rose to prominence at Benfica, scoring 49 goals in 85 appearances for the Portuguese side.
Liverpool signed Núñez in 2022 for €100 million (including add-ons), making him one of the club’s most expensive transfers. Over three seasons, he netted 40 goals and contributed to several key victories.
During his time at Anfield, Núñez helped Liverpool lift:
- The FA Community Shield (2022/23)
- The EFL Carabao Cup (2023/24)
- The Premier League title (2024/25)
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news on X (formerly Twitter), posting:
“BREAKING: Darwin Núñez to Al Hilal, here we go! Verbal agreement has been completed between all parties. €53m plus add-ons to Liverpool as revealed today. Three-year deal for Núñez. Núñez said yes and Inzaghi only wanted him. Medical next. Exclusive story, confirmed.”
Núñez now joins a star-studded Al-Hilal squad, aiming to impress with his aggressive pressing, pace, and powerful finishing. After three memorable years at Liverpool, he bids farewell to the Premier League and begins a new chapter in the Middle East.
