England all-rounder Chris Woakes has been officially ruled out of the ongoing 5th Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy due to a left shoulder dislocation, confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The injury occurred on Day 1 at The Oval during a fielding effort near the boundary rope.

In an attempt to save a boundary, Woakes landed awkwardly on his left shoulder and immediately clutched it in pain using his right arm. The England physio Ben Davies promptly rushed to the field and escorted him off for medical assessment. Later, the ECB released a statement via ESPNcricinfo, confirming that Woakes would take no further part in the Test and that his condition “will be monitored” over the coming days.

Before the injury, the 35-year-old bowled a tidy 18-over spell and claimed the key wicket of KL Rahul, continuing his consistent performance throughout the series.

Gus Atkinson Reacts to Woakes’ Injury

Teammate Gus Atkinson expressed concern over Woakes’ unfortunate injury, telling ESPNcricinfo:

“It’s a big shame. Last game of the series, and when anyone gets injured, it’s a shame. I’m hoping it’s not too bad, and whatever it is, he’ll get full support from everyone.”

The injury comes as a major blow for England, especially in the absence of Jofra Archer, who has been rested. Woakes had been a crucial part of England’s bowling lineup throughout the summer, both with the ball and bat.

ECB Hopes for Woakes’ Recovery Ahead of Ashes

England’s stand-in skipper Ollie Pope and full-time captain Ben Stokes are reportedly hoping for Woakes’ speedy recovery, with a tight international schedule ahead, including the highly anticipated Ashes series in early 2026.

Woakes has had injury setbacks in the past but has always returned with strong performances. His current absence leaves a hole in England’s bowling attack as they try to level the series against a strong Indian side.
