The Brazilian midfielder is back to the Premier League after a year in Italy with Juventus FC.

Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Douglas Luiz from Juventus for a fee of around €30 million, bringing the Brazilian midfielder back to the Premier League after a year in Italy. The 27-year-old will join Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad as Forest continue to strengthen their push for European football in the 2025/26 season.
Luiz, who previously featured for Vasco da Gama, Girona, and most notably Aston Villa, will be remembered as a fan favorite at Villa Park. During his five-year spell in Birmingham, he amassed 206 appearances, contributing 22 goals and 21 assists. In the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, the Brazilian was Aston Villa’s third-highest scorer, finishing only behind Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins.
After joining Juventus, Luiz gained valuable experience in Serie A, but his heart remained in English football. Now, Forest have secured his services as they look to climb further up the Premier League table and challenge for a potential Champions League qualification spot.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medalist, who has also earned 18 international caps for Brazil, brings both technical quality and Premier League-proven experience to Forest’s midfield. Luiz is expected to form an exciting partnership with Morgan Gibbs-White, while providing support to forwards Chris Wood and recent attacking recruits.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal on X (formerly Twitter), posting:
“Douglas Luiz to Nottingham Forest, here we go! Deal now done for a fee around €30m to Juventus. Understand #NFFC are planning for the Brazilian to travel today to the UK if documents are exchanged in time. Medical can take place on Thursday if all goes to plan.“
This signing marks another statement of intent from Nottingham Forest under Nuno Espírito Santo, as they aim to secure their place among the Premier League’s elite. Luiz’s arrival is expected to add creativity, composure, and leadership in the middle of the park—qualities that could prove vital in the club’s European ambitions.
