The defending champions starts their The Hundred campaign with a victory over the Oval Invincibles.

London Spirit Women kicked off their Women’s Hundred 2025 campaign with a thrilling 17-run win over Oval Invincibles Women, defending the second-highest total in tournament history. Grace Harris starred with a blistering 89 off 47 balls*, while Cordelia Griffith chipped in with a rapid 50 off 29 to post a massive 176/5 in their 100-ball innings.
Although Meg Lanning fought back with a sensational 85 off 51, the Invincibles fell short in their chase, finishing at 159/4.
The action began with Marizanne Kapp delivering the first wicket of the tournament, dismissing Georgia Redmayne for a duck. Kira Chathli followed shortly, gifting her wicket to Sophia Smale, leaving Spirit reeling at 40/2.
However, the tide turned with a sensational third-wicket stand. Harris and Griffith added 100 runs off just 52 balls, hammering 13 boundaries and 7 sixes between them. Their fireworks powered the defending champions to 176/5 — the second-highest team total in Women’s Hundred history.
Chasing a steep target, the Invincibles also lost their skipper early. Lauren Winfield-Hill fell to Tara Norris in the powerplay. Alice Capsey played a brief cameo but couldn’t stick around, falling to Sarah Glenn.
All eyes then turned to Meg Lanning, who anchored the innings with a commanding 85. Her stroke-filled knock kept Oval Invincibles in the hunt, needing 26 runs from the last 8 balls. Marizanne Kapp, returning with the bat, chipped in with a quick 33, but both fell before Lanning.
With a strong start, London Spirit Women will look to build momentum when they face Welsh Fire Women on Saturday, 9th August.
Meanwhile, Oval Invincibles Women will aim to regroup and bounce back in their next clash against Manchester Originals Women, also on 9th August.
