McLaren’s rising star Oscar Piastri secured his sixth Grand Prix victory of the 2025 Formula 1 season with a dominant performance at the rain-delayed Belgian GP, edging out teammate Lando Norris in a compelling intra-team battle at Spa-Francorchamps.

Despite starting second behind Norris, Piastri made a decisive move on Lap 1, using a bold line through Eau Rouge to claim the lead — a position he would not relinquish for the remainder of the 44-lap race. Torrential rain early on prompted a delay after just five laps, but Piastri maintained composure once racing resumed.

As the table shown above tells us, this win adds to the Australians’ growing list of triumphs in 2025, which already includes victories in China, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Miami, and Spain. With this result, Piastri earned 25 championship points — 17 more than Norris — significantly boosting his title campaign. McLaren now finds itself in strong contention for both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships, with Norris also contributing four wins this season.

As the updated standings suggest, a 20-second gap separated the McLaren duo from Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who claimed the final podium position. Notably, four-time world champion Max Verstappen once again finished outside the top three, continuing a challenging season for RedBull.

Elsewhere, Lewis Hamilton delivered a remarkable recovery drive. The seven-time world champion surged from P16 to P7, after his qualifying lap was deleted. His effort, combined with Leclerc’s podium, marked a solid day for Ferrari.

Reflecting on his victory, Piastri told F1.com:

“I knew that Lap 1 was probably going to be my best chance of winning the race. I got a good exit out of Turn 1 and lifted as little as I dared through Eau Rouge — and that was enough.”

“I was pretty disappointed with myself after yesterday, but it turns out starting second at Spa isn’t too bad after all.”

With the championship battle heating up, the Formula 1 calendar now heads to Budapest for the Hungarian Grand Prix, scheduled for August 1–3.
